Monsters[]

Monsters give roughly 3× XP the first time you encounter them. The numbers are in ().

Higher level monsters sometimes give slightly more or less (± 10%) XP for unknown reasons. This can mean, that the numbers on first kills below (for example for the Xomboid) can be up to 100 XP off.

As you can see in the table below, the XP gap between normal and hard is about 20%. The XP gap between normal and insane is about 50%.

The ingame SotsDex displays XP-numbers, except for the very first versions of the game.

Character XP modifier[]

Different characters earn XP by a different rate. The amount of XP required to level stay the same, but the XP gained by successful actions and kills varies.

Testing was done by killing Ice Bats on normal on the first level

Classes Ice Bat first kill Ice Bat further kills
Engineer 126 42
Striker 108 36
Scout 90 30
Ranger 73 25
Sheperd 73 25
Warrior 73

25

Seeker 60 20
Lich 60 20
Psion 54 18
Marine 67 23
Secret Character 67 23
Merc 37 13

(All testing numbers are for version 1.5.5S- this applies to the table above as well. Merc gets 37xp for the first ice bat, 13xp for the remainder. Lich gets 60xp first ice bat, 20xp for the remainder. The Ranger gets 73xp for the first one, 25 for the remainder. The Sheperd gets 73xp, then 25xp.)

Inventory Objects[]

Experience for object use depends on difficulty % of the object. The numbers given are pretty inaccurate, because they vary with skills and tools used. They can only serve as examples.

World Objects[]

Experience for object use depends on difficulty % of the object. They give ~ 40-70 experience at first, ~20-50 later, even less on higher game difficulty (down to 7). The numbers given are pretty inaccurate, because they vary with skills and tools used. They can only serve as examples.
